What’s particularly good with Karabiner is that it allows to do remappings application-specifc and device-specific. So, if for example, a Page Down is remapped to a Arrow Left in Karabiner, the target application receives an Arrow Left, even if a Page Down has been pressed on the input device. This basically means that whenever a key is pressed on an input device, Karabiner intercepts the signal sent by the device, checks if it has a remapping rule for this key, and if yes, changes the signal, and passes it on to the application which is receiving the input from this device. Karabiner is a Mac-based tool that allows to remap the keys for almost all kinds of input devices. So, now how can we remap the key functions of an input device like the wireless presenter? Karabiner We just need to remap the F5 function used for starting the slideshow. One of these functions, Esc for ending the slideshow, works fine with Preview, so we don’t need to remap it. The Start/Stop key of the Logitech presenter has two functions that alternate (the alternation between them is managed internally by the presenter). Since Preview has no “hide current slide” functionality, we don’t remap the period function of the Hide key on the presenter. So, based on the above examples, if we want to make the Logitech R700 presenter work with Preview slideshows, we have to do the following key remappings: Presenter Key Remappings For Logitech Presenter And Preview The presentation control keys of Preview are as follows: Task Preview is the default PDF and image viewer of macOS, and it can be used for presentations in PDF format (you can also use Preview for photo slideshows) In case you want to enter Page Up and Page Down on a Mac keyboard, use fn-Arrow Up and fn-Arrow Down, respectively. These keys will be the targets to which you need to remap the keys of your presenter. If not, you can search it on Google, or simply trying it out in the application. You can check if the keyboard shortcuts of your application are listed in the application’s manual. Which Keys Does My Presentation Software Use? So, now you have to find out which keyboard shortcuts your specific presentation application uses. Even Microsoft Power Point under Mac uses Cmd-Shift-Enter to enter Slide Show Mode, rather than F5. The dot key hides the current slide.ĭifferent presentation applications use different keys for these tasks. F5 enters Slide Show Mode and Esc exits it. These functions are clearly targeted at Microsoft Power Point under Windows. The functions of these keys, as revealed by Keyboard Viewer, are as follows: Presenter Key The Logitech R700 Presenter has four keys, as show on this picture: Now, just press all the keys on your presenter and observe which keys get highlighted in the Keyboard Viewer. If you click Show Keyboard Viewer, a small keyboard appears on the screen, which highlights every key as it is pressed. You find it in the Input Menu of the menu bar, as shown below: To find out the functions of the keys on your presenter, open Apple’s built-in Keyboard Viewer. What Functions Do The Keys On My Presenter Have? ![]() Which keys does your presentation software use?.What function do the keys on your presenter have?.If your presenter doesn’t work with your presentation software, you need to know two things in order to make it work: ![]() However, your specific presentation software might use other keys for switching between slides, and in this case the presenter seems to “not work”. These default functions of presenter keys are chosen like this, because many presentation applications (for example, Microsoft Power Point) used Page Up and Page Down to switch between slides in presentation mode. This means that pressing the Next key on the presenter is really just the same thing as pressing Page Down on the computer keyboard. ![]() In many presenters, the Next and Previous keys are mapped to Page Down and Page Up. The most important of these keys are the Next and Previous keys, which are supposed to switch to the next and previous slide in the presentation, respectively. How Does A Wireless Presenter Work?Ī wireless presenter is basically just a wireless keyboard with very few keys. This document explains how to remap the keys of the presenter, to make it work with a specific presentation software. A wireless presenter is a very useful device for switching between the full-screen slides in a presentation. So now onto my favorite places to practice my long hill work in front range Colorado. ![]() Successful downhill running is a mixture of skill, cadence and confidence, the later being the major issue for most people. Running down steep, non-technical terrain forces your legs to turnover more quickly which leads to greater neuromuscular adaptations translating to a quicker cadence on and off the trails. Whether on a technical trail or not, most people tend to sit back and put on the brakes on the downhills, thus overusing the quadricep muscles instead of using the downhill for the recovery it should be. Not only will you probably be faster and more efficient but power hiking uses different muscle groups which gives your body a break from the repetitive pounding of running and allows the running muscles some recovery time. So the next time you face a steep hill, you have an excuse to walk. They found that it requires the same amount of energy to climb a slope, whether running or walking. The study had seasoned mountain runners run and walk on a variety of different inclines ranging from 9-39 degrees. However, a study from the University of Colorado in Boulder has demonstrated quite the opposite and confirms what serious mountain and ultra runners have known for years: power hiking is a necessary part of both training and competition. I think for many novices, there is something about reverting to walking during a race that is akin to failure and at the very least a serious ego hit. Hiking or power hiking is a great way to train for a mountain trail race!Īs I mentioned above, this was something that was not on my radar when I first started competing in mountain trail races. ![]() Sure, you may have to settle for a slower pace but your physiology will soon catch up which will give you more power off and on the hills. However, give it some time and allow your body to adapt to the new workload. Your legs are burning, your lungs are burning and you are not yet 10 minutes in. When you first start running uphill your body is wondering what kind of cruel torture you are putting it through. This is crucial for trail runners as the most common catalyst for injury is tripping on a rock or root. Training on hills helps to strengthen your hip flexors, the muscles responsible for “picking up your feet” when running. This means you must pick up your knees and feet a little bit higher. When running up steep inclines, your body naturally must accommodate to the angle of the slope. All of these things translates to more efficient running. It is also very difficult to over-stride when running up steep hills you are forced to take short, quick steps and keep your feet underneath your body. For example, it is almost impossible to heal strike, the slope forces you to land closer to midfoot. Running uphill helps to correct a myriad of biomechanical issues. Sure, running (or power hiking) on a road uphill for an hour or more at a time may not sound like your idea of a good time but it does present a plethora of additional benefits that will transcend beyond your ability to conquer steep grades.įirst, let me share just a few of these benefits and then recommend some great places to try these workouts out on your own in the front range! ![]() So my recommendation for anyone planning on attempting their first shot at a race like Leadville, the Pikes Peak Ascent or Imogene Pass this year is to train on a lot of long steep roads to mimic the course as much as possible. The downhill section was much more demanding than the up and I was sure glad I did many long downhill repeat training sessions! Since then, I’ve completed many courses with long ascents including the famed Imogene Pass Run which entails a 7 mile climb up and over a 13,000 foot pass and then 10 miles back down into the town of Telluride, CO. On the course I was passed time and again by people hiking up the mountain while I was running at a snails pace and when I finally gave in and decided to join the masses I found myself instantly out of breath and experiencing muscle fatigue in new places, back to running! “Why hike when I could run?”, I wrongly assessed. I had done a ton of trail running to train but very little power hiking. However, I distinctly remember my greatest weaknesses on the course: my power hiking skills and ability to run long, sustained climbs. I had been trail running for over 10 years at that point, fit in all my long runs and did several 14ers for high altitude training. When race day arrived I thought I was prepared. With the starting line at over 10,000 feet, course elevation gain total over 7500 feet (including a 13er summit) and loose, rocky terrain I had my work cut out for me. Unlike most people who pick an “easy”, flat road course, I decided to go the opposite direction and chose one of the toughest ones in the country: The Leadville Trail marathon. Back in 2010 I decided to run my first marathon. ![]() It helps to release tension, lower stress levels and instill a positive mindset. ![]() ![]()
Alt refers to the “Alt” key on a PC, Win to the “Windows” key (represented by the Super keysyms over the RFB protocol), and Cmd to the “Command” key on a Mac. If youre running Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp, its pretty simple: the Option key replaces the Alt key. This will open a window with the visually challenged tools, turn on the on screen keyboard, you can then select ctrl, alt & del with the mouse. If you use Remote Desktop to administer a PC thats running VNC, you may be wondering how to send the Ctrl-Alt-Del command (Control-Alternate-Delete) from a Mac to the PC. Though Mac and PC key mapping differs, you can use an alternate key combination in Remote Desktop 2.0 and later to send the command. Suffixes L and R refer to the left and right variants of keys. (It is most similar to the “AltGr” key on non-US PC keyboards.) Consequently, the Mac’s “Option/Alt” key is not mapped to the “Alt” keysyms over the RFB protocol. For example, the key marked “Alt” on modern Macs (also known as the “Option” key) performs a different function to the “Alt” key on PC keyboards. macOS doesnt use the Ctrl+Alt+Del keyboard shortcut but instead utilizes Command+Option+Esc to invoke the Force Quit Menu. ![]() Some keys will be unique, and some keys with the same name perform will perform different functions. ![]() You could rplac th kys, but only if you know whr to gt rplacmnt kys from.
